Guimarães Jazz Event 2009

Designed by Atelier Martino & Jaña, this is a newspaper sized journal for the 2009  Guimarães Jazz Event in Portugal. It's a brilliant piece of editorial design with limited colour and many varieties of typeface. In my mind Jazz has connotations of music being stripped right back to its purest form and I think this design with limited colour reflects this perfectly. Although contemporary it harks back to vintage design in the choice of small details and it's varying typefaces. On one hand it looks very simple, but on closer inspection it is full of fine detail; not dissimilar to Jazz music. A definite revival design looking back to the golden age of Jazz.
As I aim to produce a free promotional book (small format) highlighting the lineup and events/venues of London Jazz Festival, this cheap method of printing is well worth bearing in mind. As for the identity and promotional posters etc, higher quality print would be warranted.
