Typical of the Swiss style durning the mid 20th century, Vivarelli used bold shapes to create hi-contrast images and a grid system to aid accurate layout. Both are thing I'm going to employ in my for own 'Swiss' design direction for the London Jazz Festival brief.
As I've mentioned a 'Swiss' approach is a contingency plan should I not be able to track down any hi-res images of Jazz players. I'm still on the hunt and the below poster has given me a few ideas for 'vintage' layout should I gather some printable photos. The disjointed image creates a interesting image, a device old Jazz album designs used to use.
By the end of the week I aim to have both a photographic and non-photographic direction ready for next weeks crits.
